Effects of Paclobutrazol on Growth , chlorophyll Content and Tolerances to Drought and Rust in Korean Lawngrass (Zoysia japonica Steud .)

Abstract

|
Paclobutrazol (PP 333) was applied as a soil drenching to eramine the effect on growth, pigments, sugars in leaves, and tolerance to drought stress and rust disease in Korean lawngrass. Zoysia japonica Steud. Application of 100∼200ppm paclobutrazol retarded the plant height, and the growth was suppressed by 50%. Residual effect of paclobutrazol was continued for at least 2 years. Leaf chlorophyll content increased with increasing rates of paclobutrazol, and paclobutrazol treatment extended the green period of grasses to the late October. Fructose, glucose, and sucrose in leaves increased by paclobutrazol application. Paclobutrazol also markedly increased the tolerance to both drought and rust disease.
